Security - Louvre Shutters
Skill Level: Medium
All You Need
Louvre shutters, timber battening, hinges, screws, catch, electric screwdriver.
Why Think Security?
A little peace of mind goes a long way. As you know, windows are a common means of entry for burglars. Securing them properly is essential. Vulnerable windows (e.g. ground floor or near a flat roof, trees or drainpipes) can be secured by louvred shutters which look good, are practical and more distinctive than glass. Here, we show you how to install a double door louvre so you´ll be as safe as houses.

Step-By-Step
Fix timber battening to window frame, bringing
it flush with outer brickwork. Make sure corners
of the opening you leave are square
Louvre shutters are made-to-measure, so take
dimensions of opening
Fix hinges to louvre doors

Fix first door-and-hinge to battening with
screws
Repeat with other door, making sure the louvre
closes snugly
Fix catch as appropriate
