Why A Storage Box?

Getting kids to tidy up is never easy, but this spacious and tough wooden box will help! It´s the right height for kids, toys can be kept out of sight. And because it provides a single, handy, place for toys, your kids will want to personalise it with their name or a design. Although this project is designed for toys, it is also an effective multipurpose storage unit for a bathing, living or sleeping area.

Step-By-Step

Cut pine as follows:

Place a corner post so it butts the top of a bottom rail and is aligned with its end. Glue and nail the assembly

Repeat at other end of rail Glue and nail a slat to top of one of the corner posts Check the end is square and drive in a second nail Glue and nail both centre slats in place, then bottom slat Assemble other end in same way

Place two end sections on their sides opposite one another Glue and nail end of a long slat flush with bottom and square with end Repeat at other end Glue and nail top long slat, then the centre two long slats, ensuring assembly is square at every stage Repeat at other end

Glue and nail bottom slats to bottom rails, attaching outside slats first and evenly spacing remaining slats Apply spray varnish or sealant to protect the wood Make a stencil by tracing block letters (available from any stationery or craft-supply store) onto lightweight cardboard

Place paper around stencil to protect box from overspray Tape stencil in place Spray colour(s) of your choice Allow to dry. Fill with toys!

Tip
If box is for storing toys, why not personalise it with your child´s name or initials?
