Black & Decker® hammers its way to the top of the Superbrands list
Black & Decker, a name synonymous with DIY, is proud to announce today, 20 July 2006, that it has been voted the number one DIY Superbrand.
Selected from an original list of approximately 10,000 brands, Black & Decker has been voted the top DIY brand not only by the experts at the Superbrands Council, but also by a consumer panel. This is the first time the Superbrands organisation has included consumers in the voting process, and has enriched the awards by officially partnering with the reliable online research agency YouGov. The Superbrands organisation strives to recognise branding excellence and to appreciate quality, reliability and distinction.
Black & Decker created the worlds first portable electric drill for consumers 60 years ago, and, following a bold decision to make products specifically for the home tools market, gave birth to the DIY market. Black & Decker strives to be seen as the leader in its field, and even developed a unique power head for the Apollo Lunar Surface Drill to remove core samples from the moon back in 1969.
The DIY market has doubled since 1998 from £4.9billion to £8.1billion and Black & Decker continues to go from strength to strength, offering powerful and practical solutions for great DIYers the world over. Despite the recent stabilising of the DIY market, Black & Decker continues to pioneer excellent product design and has won glittering industry awards for their product innovation.
Becky Cotsworth, Black & Decker Marketing Manager, enthuses, Attaining Superbrand status is a fantastic honour, and we are elated to be voted the top DIY brand in the UK. We are really proud of our brand, and the products and people behind our success, so are delighted to be recognised as the leader in our field. We are doubly excited because this year consumers have been heavily involved in the voting process, and, being a consumer brand, we see this as an extra accolade.
