Step by Step Instructions
Step 1. Cut Wood to Size
Use your jigsaw to cut the 25x75mm wood into 6 pieces, each 405mm in length, and one at 355mm (the shorter piece will be used as your back fastening piece).
Step 2. Trace Half of Heart
Line up pieces of wood. Draw half of a heart into one side of the pieces, as seen in the image below. (After you cut the first 3 pieces you’ll flip them and trace them onto the remaining 3 pieces so that your project is symmetrical.)
Step 3. Cut Tracings
Secure wood to work bench, cut tracings with your jigsaw. For smaller pieces, you may want to use clamps for ease and accuracy.
Step 4. Re-Trace & Cut
Flip the pieces you cut and trace them onto the remaining 405mm slat of wood, and cut with a jigsaw.
Step 5. Sand All Pieces
Using your sander, sand all edges until they are soft and line up with each other.
Step 6. Drill Pilot Holes
a) Using your drill and a 3.2mm drill bit, drill 6 pilot holes that are spread evenly apart in the 355mm piece of wood. This is the piece you will use to connect the 6 vertical pieces.
b) Next, drill 1 pilot hole in each of the vertical pieces.
Step 7. Paint/Stain
Now that you have sanded and cut pilot holes in your heart, paint or stain the pieces any colour that you want. We painted and stained every other piece.
Leave to dry! (Follow instructions on paint or stain bottle for the appropriate length of time.)
Step 8. Fasten Back
Now that your pieces are dry, secure the 355mm slat to the back of your painted vertical pieces using screws and wood glue.
Step 9. Attach Knobs
First drill pilot holes where you want your cabinet knobs to be. Then screw in the knobs using accessories included in cabinet knobs packaging.
Step 10. Attach Hooks
Attach hooks to back of 355mm wood using screws and brackets provided.
